The short version
- We collect what is needed to run a local marketplace: your Google account basics, what you choose to add, and your orders.
- Your location is used to find shops near you. It is never shown to shops or on any public page.
- We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.
- We do not process payments. You pay shops directly in cash or UPI.
- You can ask us to delete your account at any time. See Delete account.
This policy explains how LocalMein ("LocalMein", "we", "us") handles personal data when you use the LocalMein mobile app, storefront links such as /s/shop-name, and this website (together, the "Service"). It is written to meet India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules.
What we collect
When you sign in
You sign in with Google. Google shares your name, email address, profile photo and a Google account identifier with us. We never see your Google password.
What you choose to add
- Profile: display name, photo, and optionally date of birth and gender.
- Phone number: if you link one, or verify a shop's WhatsApp number, we send a one-time code by SMS to confirm it.
- Addresses: delivery or visit addresses you save, including a map pin.
- Preferences: categories you are interested in, search radius and similar settings.
- Photos: profile and shop images, listing photos, review photos, order proof and payment screenshots you upload.
- Reviews and ratings you write.
When you order, book or sell
- Orders and appointments: items, quantities, chosen options, notes, time slots, pickup or delivery choice, status updates, handover codes and any dispute details.
- Payment records: whether an order was marked paid and any UPI screenshot you attach. We do not receive card or bank details.
- Shop details (sellers): business name, category, description, hours, service area, catalog, offers, booking settings, and the phone or WhatsApp number shown on your storefront.
Automatically
- Usage events: storefront views, taps on call or WhatsApp, and shares, so shops can see how they are found. We store a one-way hash of the IP address, not the address itself.
- Device push token: if you allow notifications, so we can tell you about orders and messages.
- Technical logs: standard server logs for security and debugging.
How we use it
- To run the Service: sign you in, show nearby shops, place and track orders and appointments, and send notifications about them.
- To build trust: verified-phone badges, reviews from completed orders, and shop reliability stats.
- To keep the Service safe: preventing fraud, spam and abuse, and resolving disputes between buyers and shops.
- To improve the Service, using aggregated usage information.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell personal data, rent it, or use it for third-party advertising.
Who can see what
| Information | Who sees it |
|---|---|
| Your email, date of birth, gender, saved addresses, preferences | Only you |
| Your name and the details of an order or booking you place | You and that shop |
| Your address or phone for a delivery or home visit | That shop, for that order only |
| Payment screenshot for an order | You and that shop |
| Reviews you write, with your display name | Public |
| A shop's storefront, catalog, offers, hours and listed contact number | Public, by design. That is what the share link is for. |
| Who viewed or tapped a storefront | Shops see counts and trends, not who you are |
There is no public customer profile.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, only to run the Service:
- Google: Google Sign-In, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications.
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, database and photo storage, on servers in India and the United States.
- Message Central: sends one-time SMS verification codes.
When you tap WhatsApp or call on a storefront, that app opens on your phone and its own privacy policy applies. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.
Location
With your permission, the app reads your device location to find shops near you and show distances. It is sent with each search and is not saved to your profile. We do not track your location in the background. Your location is never shown to shops or on any public page. You can turn location off in your phone settings and still browse by search.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account we delete or anonymise your personal data, except records we must keep for a limited time to resolve open disputes, prevent fraud, or meet legal and tax obligations. Reviews you wrote are removed or anonymised. Usage events are kept in aggregated form.
Your rights and choices
- Access and correction: see and edit most of your data in the app under Profile.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your account and data. See Delete account.
- Withdraw consent: for example, revoke location or notification permission in your phone settings, or remove your phone number.
- Grievance: raise a complaint with us (below). If it is not resolved, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.
- Nominate: name another person to exercise these rights if you are unable to.
